Well, I looked and I found it.
Most days.
On the days I actively looked for magic to write about, I certainly found something, even if it was a stretch. On days when I didn’t pay any attention, I got nothing. No sign of magic anywhere.
Yesterday I went on a somewhat spontaneous adventure to Los Angeles with one of my closest friends. She is running in the Rock & Roll Los Angeles Halloween Half Marathon (yeah, she’s pretty awesome), so we went to the city to pick up her bib and have a nice leisurely lunch. Someday I hope to be physically strong enough to do something like that. In the mean time, I will simply sit at home, read, and stuff my face with delicious soy ice cream.
OKAY, back on track.
We were off on an adventure. We’re good at adventures. She and I did a two-week backpacking trip through five countries back in 2011. The two of us tend to attract surprising and memorable experiences, especially when we’re together. I think it’s due to the fact that we are constantly challenging ourselves and each other to grow spiritually and consciously. So on a day like this, we were trying to practice being more present, more observant, and more loving (more on that bit later).
In our wandering search to find something to eat, we found this fantastic statue outside of what we quickly discovered was the Peace Yoga Gallery. We walked in, and were warmly welcomed by one of the yoga instructors.
She said, “We just finished a class, so there will be a lot of people coming up, but go ahead and take a look at the yoga room.” In our current state of being open to new experiences, we had to check it out.
The place was amazing! If I lived anywhere near this studio, I would probably be there all the time. We thoroughly explored the space and took a brief meditation, trying to soak it all in. On our way out, I got hit over the head with this lovely piece of wisdom.
It was brilliant timing for me.
Recently, I have been trying to force myself to think about or see something magical, in hopes that I’ll be able to write something meaningful about it. This message was a reminder that all I need to do, is surrender to each moment. When I practice being present and aware, magic will just show up.
Oh, and in case I had any doubts whatsoever, this was there too.
1. Stop worrying about it.
The more energy focused on trying to find something, distracts you from seeing what you actually need to see.
2. Let go.
I also like to call this surrendering. Surrender the desire to find what you’re looking for, and just trust that it is there, waiting for you, and when you’re ready, it will reveal itself.
3. Be present.
The only way for whatever you’re looking for to reveal itself, is if you are open for it. When you are being present, being aware of your breath, your body, your environment, then it’s much more likely to see and experience exactly what you need.
